The Clause Weekend Millionaire – In Your Ears Music Review

The Clause Weekend Millionaire – In Your Ears Music Review – Lewis Duckers

Hailing from England’s second city – Birmingham’s own The Clause – Pearce, Liam, Jonny and Niall look to close 2024 on the upward trajectory, they have carved out for themselves over the last couple of years.
Brand new EP Weekend Millionaire follows on from last years highly successful Pop Culture.

The title track, and we can all relate to or have known a weekend millionaire – Starts with a light dusting of synth – Quotable, relatable lyrics “This kids got a Ford ST, is he trendier than me” “It’s a curse to wake up in the modern world” building throughout, and by the time we’ve got the ooh aahs those dancing shoes are well and truly on!

Next up Fever Dream starts with Pearce Macca channelling his inner Van McCann. The intro has echos of Homesick by Catfish And The Bottlemen, before the track takes off in another direction around the 50 second mark. The lyrics feel autobiographical Pearce said

“After peering through the retrospective window in my mind and spooling through the
endless wrong turns and choices I’ve made, the words for Fever Dream fell onto the page. It is a battle cry
for all procrastinators who seamlessly breeze from one day to another hoping the world will fall into place only to wake up and contemplate where they could be if they just cared a little more”

The chorus is huge, euphoric and ready for a big stage!

Take Me Home – Is an unapologetic, unadulterated banger – What a tune! Pounding drums, filthy guitar, base line and out of the traps into a massive chorus filled with bad intentions! “Naughty not nice for the Saturday night” the backing vocals add to the euphoria! This is a Saturday night tune, play it loud next time your having pre drinks I guarantee it will hit the spot!

Stop The World – Starts with an old school crackle before veering into the present day with stories of hitting snooze, and watching world war 3 on the BBC. I’m sure we all wish we could wake up in the afternoon some days, and the nods to worrying current affairs feel oh so real.

EP closer never ending affair sees The Clause at their most candid and introspect.

As I mentioned before this band have been growing over the last few years. I first saw them in Manchester at the YANA festival, after being blown away by their set I was talking to one of the organisers who said that set is festival main stage ready now.

The next time was a very sweaty Heebie Jeebies in Liverpool at sound city, those who know The Clause and know that venue can imagine the scenes, a mosh pit for the ages. Im sure another Macca synonymous with that city would be proud that 60 years on those sweaty intimate gigs are still at the heartbeat of the upcoming music scene!
Then the last time was supporting The Reytons watching it all come together on a massive stage!

Talking of massive stages the band head out on their biggest headline tour culminating in a 1500 Birmingham homecoming so get snapping those tickets up, they won’t hang around!
