Ride On by Evan Williams Review
Ride On is the latest indie rock single from Kent singer-songwriter Evan Williams, released on the Strap Originals label, founded by Pete Doherty, best known for his work in The Libertines. It is apparent from the very start of the song why Evan is being backed by Pete Doherty, with the trudging drums, the rumbling guitar licks and the vocal delivery all reminiscent of the early 00s indie/garage rock revival sound, craftily blended with a Western vibe to create an anthem that packs a punch.
The first few bars of the track are met with a stomping drum pattern that delivers the feel to the song and helps propel the song through its three and a half minute run time. The guitars are quickly accompanied and while they are prominently displayed within the track, they are cleverly placed to avoid any loss of the vocals and the other instrumentation, as well as emphasising the indie influences that are apparent throughout the entire tune.
Evan’s delivery of the words are sung through the mind of a poet, gracefully articulating his journey through adulthood and navigating himself within the industry, told through Western imagery, which was the clear impact to the song during its writing process.
This song was revealed ahead of his debut album, The View From Halfway Down, which is due to be released on April 11th, an album that is definitely worth checking out and will surely be played in heavy rotation.
