Red Eye Pariah – Tequila King Review

Red Eye Pariah – Tequila King

Hailing from Antrim Red Eye Pariah have been making a splash on both sides of the Irish Sea recently, a headline UK tour over the summer, and an Irish one to boot this month. It’s fair to say the lads have been busy also dropping their second EP. Sylvester Stallone may be Tulsa King but Red Eye Pariah are the self crowned “Tequila King” With its four tracks, the band showcases their ability to blend genres seamlessly, creating an engaging sounding EP that is sure to have fans in raptures.

The EP kicks off with maybe a slight tip of the hat to Noddy Holder and Slade here with the spelling These Daze Have Just Begun an energetic and upbeat track that immediately grabs your attention with the infectious riff heavy intro.
The track starts with a bleaker outlook
“Got that stinkin feelin in your gut, you roll out of bed muttering fuck” we’ve all been there right! By the time the killer chorus has hit we are “Basking in the sun, oooh and these days have just begun”
The melody drives along at such a pace those feet will be moving, you’ll be bellowing these days have just begun with your arms in the air!
The band had this to say about the track
“The first verse is about how life can be a bit sh*t, and it resolves in the second verse. It’s a mixture of encouraging self-love, and trusting that there’s light at the end of the tunnel”

The second track, The Rounds is another highlight. It hits home with its fast-paced tempo and driving guitar riffs. The song outlines the infatuation that people have when they first meet, and it emphasizes the same emotional investment being as strong after being through a lot together. “Here’s my love song to you, after all the things we’ve been through” sounds particularly poignant with Deano Kelly’s delivery over those huge swirling guitars.

Words a slower and more reflective track. The band’s heartfelt vocals and poignant lyrics shine through in this song. Reflecting on this track with the band they said “We feel people will be able to relate to this from someone they’ve come across who is living in their own self-fabricated reality and they’re their own centre of attention. The type of person who’s been to both Tenerife and Elevenereife”

The EP concludes with So Long – So long, so long my friend which again feels personal and introspective. Throughout the track questions are asked about relationships, what these mean at certain moments in time and the farewell and not knowing if the time is quite right. Whilst the subject is reflective and capturing moments in time. The chorus is huge the delivery en point as the drums pound relentlessly throughout the first half of the track accompanied by an underpinning base line, before the guitar comes to the fore.
Killer lyrics on the closer include “Those lyin eyes and bear trap thighs, they will see me the whole night through”

Overall, “Tequila King” is a well-crafted and enjoyable EP that showcases Red Eye Pariah’s talent and often poignant lyrics. The band’s ability to blend different genres and create catchy, memorable melodies alongside huge riffs is what makes them so good live.
Check out the EP, and look out for the next tour those tickets aren’t going to hang around.
