Joe T. Johnson

Joe T. Johnson is back with his second single, the incredibly spectacular โ€˜FRIENDSโ€™ available on the 1st September. Recorded in a couple of wildly productive days produced by Lewis Bradshaw and mastered by Pete Maher (Patti Smith, Jack White, Rolling Stones, The Killers) The tracks were recorded taking a DIY, organic, vintage approach which complements Joeโ€™s creative process.

Hailing from Bristol, Joe T. Johnson rides his own wave. This is a musician who makes vintage music feel authentic: lyrically observational, representative of the times, simple and honest, partnered to the sound of an absolute indie masterpiece .

โ€จJoe performed multiple times at Glastonbury Festival 2019, made his first international TV appearance and his band โ€˜Hush Mozeyโ€™ played at the 02 academy Bristol with numerous plays by Steve Lamacq on his BBC 6 Show.

He has plans to release his debut EP at the end of 2020

How would you describe your music?
Folk music was all around me when growing up, Bob Dylan, Woody Guthrie, Lead belly songs, made lyrics a great importance to me when listening and for when writing my music. Yy music is written and recorded using a DIY, organic, vintage approach which complements my creative process.

What inspires your writing?
Do you draw inspiration from poems, music, TV, or other media? – It’s just a song writing spark, an idea that comes from nowhere and I feel driven and empowered to write a song around an idea I come up with and see it through until the end.

What do you enjoy most about being an artist?
I love putting music out and seeing the reaction, I also love playing live and providing my fans with music fitting for a good night out.

Who are your main musical influences?
My top 5 Tracks are

Song 1. The Beatles – Twist and Shout I remember seeing the Beatles on TV when I was young, and that is what got me into music. I loved the haircuts, I loved the feel, that was my first memory of being aware of music.

Song 2. Bob Dylan – Subterranean Homesick Blues

Bob Dylan hails as one of the best lyricist that i’ve ever heard

SONG 3. Chaz and Dave – Margate

My Brother is called Chaz and my dad is called Dave so this duo has played a huge importance in my family and my upbringing. I love this song because I grew up in a world where summer holidays consisted of a trip down to Brighton, Western Super Mare so i can relate to this song a lot.

SONG 4. France Gall – Laisse Tomber les Filles
My girlfriend is French and we always sing this song together

SONG 5. Hush Mozey – Oh What A Dream

Brings back happy memories of recording with Hush Mozey

 How have you found Lockdown?

I’ve found lock down great, I feel like I’ve been training my whole life for this moment so it came quite easy.
